A few minutes after each run can help you spot a loose wheel, trapped debris or damaged wire before it becomes a larger problem.

Use this routine alongside your model’s manual. Cleaning methods and lubrication requirements differ between vehicles.

1. Shut down safely

Follow the manufacturer’s shutdown sequence and disconnect the drive battery. Allow hot components to cool before handling them.

Inspect the battery and wiring. Do not charge a battery that is swollen, leaking or visibly damaged; follow its manufacturer’s handling instructions.

2. Remove loose dirt

Use a soft brush and cloth to remove dust, grass and debris. Pay attention to the steering, suspension and exposed drivetrain.

Do not assume waterproof electronics make the entire vehicle suitable for washing or submersion. Follow the exact model’s wet-running and cleaning instructions. Traxxas’ cleaning guidance also emphasizes checking and maintaining the vehicle after use. Manufacturer cleaning guide

3. Inspect the moving parts

With the vehicle powered off, check for:

  • Loose wheels or visibly damaged tires.
  • Bent links or disconnected joints.
  • Debris wrapped around axles.
  • Frayed wires or loose connectors.
  • New leaks, binding or unusual play.

Investigate anything that changed during the run.

4. Tighten and lubricate selectively

Use the correct tools and the manual’s instructions. Overtightening can damage threads or restrict movement.

Apply only the specified lubricant where required. Avoid spraying the whole vehicle with oil, which can attract dirt and contaminate surfaces.

5. Prepare for storage

Make sure the vehicle is clean and dry. Store the battery according to its manufacturer’s instructions, and never leave charging unattended.

Write down repairs needed before the next run. A short maintenance log makes recurring problems easier to recognize.

Your next step: Browse tools and maintenance supplies, checking suitability for your model.
